President Ashraf Ghani has dismissed his protocol officer over a verbal clash with Kandahar’s provincial council chief during his visit to the province, the Presidential Palace said in a press release.

Presidential Palace says that during President’s visit with provincial officials, religious scholars and tribal elders, his protocol officer misbehaved with a tribal elder that caused president’s anger.

The government official said the verbal clash turned physical after the provincial council chief repeatedly hurled abusive words at Sharifi, provoking him to react.

Presidential Palace has said that the citadel is public servant and all government officials are a connection bridge between the people and government. The government officials are obliged to respect all people, particularly elders.

President Ghani has also instructed security officials to seriously investigate on the issue of imaginary schools in Kandahar.

“The issue of imaginary schools must be cleared by the security officials in the nearest time,” said President Ghani.

Kandahar is considered strategically important because of its international airport, its agricultural and industrial output and its position as one of the country’s main trading hubs.
