President Ghani, Indonesian FM Stress on Expansion of Relations
The Presidential Palace statement said the meeting took place in ARG, Afghan and Indonesian senior officials were also attended the meeting.
According to the statement, President Ghani said, “The Afghan government is eager to use the positive experiences of Indonesia in terms of stable peace and the High Peace Council officials will also discuss regarding the issue in their visit with Indonesian officials in the near future.”
President Ghani emphasized on the long-standing ties between Afghanistan and Indonesia and said the relations can be expanded more with meetings between the religious scholars of the two countries.
He praised Indonesia’s cooperation and supports from Afghanistan and added that the country has great experiences in the field of women empowerment and economic growth and the Afghan government hopes to benefit from them.
Ghani also called on Indonesian foreign minister to encourage Indonesian investors to track the investment opportunities in Afghanistan and begin investments in the country.
In the meantime, the Indonesian foreign minister Retno Marsudi thanked the Afghan government’s warm welcome and said the friendship between Afghanistan and Indonesia is not limited to the governments, but also the people of the two countries have good relations in the past history.
Retno Marsudi assured President Ghani of her country’s commitment to continue cooperation and stressed on the expansion of ties between the people of the two countries, particularly the religious scholars.
She also noted that her country is ready to cooperate in Afghanistan peace talks process.
Nearly 4,000 Afghan asylum seekers have languished in Indonesia for years while awaiting resettlement to a third country.
Indonesia is the world’s largest Muslim-majority country.
