Probe Team Confirms 50 Victims in Hospital Attack

A fact finding delegation from the Afghan Ministry of Defense in a press conference on Wednesday confirmed that at least 50 people have been killed and 31 others wounded in the attack on Sardar Mohammad Daud Khan’s military hospital in Kabul.

Lieutenant Gen. Helaludin Helal, the Deputy Defense Minister for Strategic and Intelligence Affairs and head of the team investigating the attack and its aftermath said that no evidence which show the attack was started from inside the hospital was not found.

There were rumors of an insider attack and involvement of a doctor from the hospital, rejecting the rumors the ministry said, the investigation team is still working to find if insiders were involved in the attack.

The attack occurred on March 08 and the Islamic State group claimed responsibility behind the attack.

Afghan official added that there were five attackers in total: one suicide bomber who detonated an explosive belt and four gunmen who stormed the facility with weapons, hand grenade and knives.

According to the Helal, the militants had used a vehicle with a fake registration plate and the owner of the vehicle has been identified.

He also confirmed that about 24 people including the suspects and officials for dereliction of duty have been arrested and are under investigation.
