A number of residents in the capital Kabul complains about unfair distribution of electricity as the winter season is coming, while officials blames excessive usage.

Annually when the winter season is coming, citizens in the capital of Afghanistan are experiencing darkness and the issue of electricity shortage is fuelling the public anger.

“Afghanistan’s national power company says there will be a three percent blackout, but we don’t have electricity for twenty-four hours, while there is no electricity shortage in Shirpoor, Wazir Akbar Khan and Karte Parwan areas,” Muhammad Farid a resident of Kabul said angrily.

Mustafa another resident of  Kabul added,” there is no justice in distribution of power, it is just for the powerful people”.

An official in the Afghanistan’s national power utility has rejected the allegations saying the power shortage is due to overuse.

“The power supplied lines cannot import more than 300 megawatt electricity, the level of water is down, Mahipar and Surobi dams which generate electricity for Kabul cannot supply the daily requirement,” Wahidullah Tawhidi, a spokesman for Breshna, Afghanistan’s national power utility said.

Last year Kabul went dark for months after Taliban damaged the city’s main power supply and it took months for the government to fix power lines.
