Roadside Bomb Hits Foreign Troops Convoy in Nangarhar
A roadside bomb struck a foreign troops’ convoy Sunday night in eastern Nangarhar province, a provincial official said.
The attack took place at around 1:00 a.m. in Ghani Khail district, the provincial governor spokesperson Attaullah Khogyani said.
Two children and their father lost their lives as foreign forces opened fire following the blast, the official added.
The U.S. forces in Afghanistan confirmed the incident in a statement, saying no casualties occurred to their forces.
“We can confirm that a convoy with U.S. and Afghan personnel was struck by a roadside bomb and attacked with small arms fire in Nangarhar Province. The convoy returned fire in self-defense and there were no U.S. casualties,” the statement said.
The U.S. military, meanwhile, rejected the claims of casualties to civilians in the incident.
“We have not received any official allegations of civilian casualties.”
The statement added that the incident is under investigation and more information will be released as “appropriate”.
