Presidential Palace rejects rumors on Abdul Rashid Dostum’s exile into Turkey, reiterates the First Vice-President left the country for medical treatment purposes and soon will return.

General Dostum left Kabul for Ankara on Friday night, following the allegations that he illegally detained and raped a political rival, Ahmad Eshchi.

“First Vice-President went for medical treatment and thereafter, will return to Kabul. Rumors about [his exile] are baseless and false,” said media advisor of Vice-President’s Office, Mohammad Yasin Khamosh.

Dostum was rarely seen in his office at the Presidential Palace after the claims made by Ishchi, a former governor of the northern Jowzjan province,  who was kidnapped in November last year while  attending a traditional game of buzkashi.

“General Dostum visits Turkey and we expect him to return after getting treatment,” said Acting Spokesman of President Ghani’s Office, Shah Hussian Murtazawi.

It comes as recently, the Attorney General assured of “serious” investigation of the First Vice-President’s case.
