Russia, China, India play significant role in peace process
Outgoing President Hamid Karzai in his visit with Alexander Mantytskiy, the new Russia Ambassador to Afghanistan said that Russia, China and India will play a significant role in peace process in Afghanistan.
Hamid Karzai was said to consider the relation between Afghanistan and Russia historically.
Relations between the Russia and Afghanistan were contentious when Soviet Russia invaded Afghanistan in 1979, precipitating a negative reaction in much of the Muslim world and creating a chain of events which would bring Afghanistan in the futureless and disastrous situation Afghanistan finds itself ever since. However, Russo-Afghan relations have somewhat improved in the years following the conflict, and Russia now has an embassy in Kabul and a consulate-general in Mazar-e- Sharif, and Afghanistan has an emabssy in Moscow.
