Russian officials of Chamber of Commerce stress on further investment in mining, construction and commercial business fields in Afghanistan.

“We are ready to invest in infrastructure sectors of Afghanistan and we want to strengthen our relations with Afghanistan,” said a member of Russia’s Chamber of Commerce.

Meanwhile, officials in Afghanistan Chamber of Commerce and Industries consider the role of Russia important in investment in Afghanistan.

The Soviet Union built some 142 infrastructure-related facilities in Afghanistan between 1952 and 1988, including the Puli Khumri hydropower plant on the Kunduz River, the Naglu Dam on the Kabul River, as well as highways and gas pipeline networks.

Russia’s political line in Afghanistan is at the stage of development. It will depend on specific threats and, above all, on the activity of the Taliban and the ability of  Karzai’s government to retain power. It is obvious that one needs to create new regional vectors of influence with Pakistan, India, the CSTO countries and especially Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. Today we can say with certainty that Russia will face the need to combat drug trafficking that has increased hundreds of times during the stay of NATO troops.
