Seven-day polio vaccination campaign starts in eastern zone

Nangarhar public health officials say a seven-day polio vaccination campaign has kicked off in Nangarhar, Laghman and Kunar provinces.
Nangarhar Department of Public Health Exemption Officer Hakkam Khan Gulabzoi said that during this campaign, about 2.5 million children under the age of 10 will receive polio vaccinations.
Local officials in the province also asked people to vaccinate their children.
Aminullah Sharif, head of public health in Nangarhar, has emphasized that all families should try to take their children to polio vaccination centers.
Meanwhile, the World Health Organization (WHO) warned on Friday that the influx of Afghan returnees from Pakistan significantly increases the risk of cross-border spread of the polio virus.
