Seven People Arrested Over Flogging of Young Afghan Woman

Seven people have been arrested over illegal flogging of Surayya, 22, after the individuals  executed a verdict  of a Kangaroo court in the northern Takhar province, said Munira Yousifzada, spokeswoman of Afghanistan Independent Directorate of  Local Governance (IDLG).

According to Mrs. Yousifzada, the arrested men and victim have already been taken from Chah Ab district to Talqan, the capital city of Takhar province.

The victim Surayya, said that those who were flogging her in public are her relatives. 

Afghan Ministry of Interior (MoI) had informed yesterday, February 05, that the police arrested three close relatives of Surraya in connection to flogging her in public.

Najib Danesh, MoI’s spokesman, also identified the perpetrators as Hamidullah, Jahangir and Abdulqadir who are respectively Surayya’s uncle, Father-in-Law, and brother.

The footages of the incident started circulating among Afghan social media users mainly Facebook few days ago in which a women is filmed while  being beaten and flogged by many local residents.

Takhar’s local official then realized and confirmed that the victim was a woman, 22, who was gone under a verdict of a Kangaroo model court for allegedly having affairs with a 17 years old boy.
