Acting head of the Afghanistan Food and Drug Authority Abdul Bari Omar says in the coming years, this authority will be able to provide the country with food security.

Speaking at a news conference in Kabul, Omar said: “If we want to have standard treatment, quality food, safe food and a healthy society, then let’s put our hands together to get rid of issues.”

“If someone is smuggling, let us know, if someone is selling expired products, let us know,” he stressed.

Omar added that they have established seven laboratories for quality control of food and they are considering activating a laboratory to check whether meat is haram or halal.

“We have prepared seven food laboratories this year, one of which has been opened and the other six will be inaugurated in the coming days,” he added.

Omar also asked businessmen and investors to prevent the production and import of low-quality medicine and food in the country and said anyone caught violating this decision would face legal action.

Meanwhile, 836 tons of low-quality food and expired medicine were destroyed by this department on Wednesday in Kabul.
