Suicide Attack Leaves 7 Dead, 38 Wounded in Helmand

At least Seven people, including two women and one child were killed and 38 others wounded when a suicide attacker detonated a car bomb near a police headquarters in Lashkargah, the capital of southern Helmand province of Afghanistan.

According to provincial police chief Abdul Ghafar Safai, the explosion took place at 11:00 AM when a crowd of policemen and soldiers gathered in a branch of New Kabul Bank inside the provincial police HQ to receive their salaries.

“Two local women, four soldiers, and a child died in the explosion along with about 38 wounded,” Safi said.

 The Taliban insurgent group has claimed responsibility for the attack.

The suicide attack comes as U.S. President Donald Trump has announced a new strategy toward Afghanistan.
