Suicide bomber detonates explosives near Kabul airport
A bomber has detonated his explosives near the Kabul International Airport in Afghanistan’s capital, with no immediate information on possible casualties.
The blast occurred on Monday morning close to a checkpoint near the airport.
“A bomber on foot detonated his suicide vest… near Kabul airport,” Afghan Interior Ministry spokesman Najib Danish told AFP. “There is no immediate information on casualties.”
According to Danish, the bomber’s target was a convoy of foreign troops passing through the area. A police spokesman, however, said the bomber was not aware of that passage.
No group immediately claimed responsibility for the bombing, which comes as Afghan forces battle to end an hours-long siege near the Indian consulate in northern Mazar-i-Sharif city.
The bombing marks the latest assault on the war-scarred Afghan capital.
