Afghanistan Ministry of Finance (MoF) has repeatedly emphasized on the availability of sufficient financial resources for the implementation of projects, but all 606 basic projects have not been completed.

During the presentation of finance officials in Parliament about the annual performance report of the year 1394, they urged the Parliament members to seriously monitor the budgetary units.

“The 48 billion Afghanis which has not been spent, relates to the ministries of national defense and interior. There are many other institutions that have failed to spend their budgets,” said Sayeed Mahdi Hussaini, deputy of Supreme Audit Office (SAO).

According to the report of SAO, of the 284 billion Afghanis which approved by parliament, only seven percent has been spent and 48 percent of it remains in place.

Officials in SAO noted that of the 152 billion Afghanis of the development budget approved by Parliament, 82 billion has been spent and the other 69 billion remains in place.

“The development budget had 606 projects and the ministry of finance has repeatedly stressed on the availability of enough budget. But 158 projects have been canceled and 172 projects have not completed a 50 percent,” Hussaini added.

SAO demands parliament to make further efforts on monitoring the budgetary budgets.
