The Taliban militants ambushed a convoy of Afghan security and defense forces in northern Faryab province, wounding at least four soldiers, an official said on Monday.

Abdulkarim Yurish, a spokesman for Faryab police told Ariana News that the convoy of Afghan forces had been ambushed by the Taliban insurgents en route to Khwaja Sabz Posh and Sheerin Tagab districts of the province on Sunday.

At least 18 Taliban militants were killed and ten others wounded in the incident, he said.

The Afghan forces have arrested two Taliban fighters as they pushed back the attack, he added.

At least four Afghan security personnel and three civilians including two men and a woman were also injured in the incident, Yurish said.

The Taliban militant group has not made a comment about the incident yet.

Faryab is among the insecure provinces in the north of Afghanistan where the Taliban insurgents are actively operating in a number of its districts and usually carrying out attacks against government forces.
