Taliban Announces Support for TAPI Gas Pipeline Project in Afghanistan

The armed Taliban group has announced support for the “Turkmenistan Afghanistan Pakistan India” (TAPI) gas pipeline project, the group said in a statement.

“TAPI is an important economic project in the region and the Taliban group will cooperate for its implementation in the areas that are under the control of the group,” the statement reads.

The Taliban group has also called on involved countries of the TAPI project to take a guarantee for the impunity of this project from the United Nations.

The TAPI pipeline will have a capacity to carry 90 million standard cubic metres a day (mmscmd) gas for 30 years and is planned to become operational this year.

The project will will bring clean fuel to the growing economies of the four countries.
Under the pipeline project, Pakistan and India will be provided 1.325 bcfd gas each and Afghanistan will be getting a share of 0.5 billion cubic feet per day (bcfd) gas.
