Simultaneously with the death of Taliban supreme leader, Mullah Akhtar Mansour, the Afghan Army Chief of Staff warns of increased attacks by Taliban.

“In my opinion, Taliban will increase attacks after the death of their leader,” Qadam Shah Shahim, army chief of staff said.

Mansoor was killed in Pakistan on Saturday when his vehicle was struck by a US drone, believed to be the first time a Taliban leader was killed in such a way inside Pakistani territory.

Pakistan’s military broke its silence on the matter with a press statement on Wednesday. It said that in a meeting with the US ambassador, army chief Raheel Sharif expressed “serious concern” over the drone strike.

The Taliban had vowed to take aim at government employees, particularly those in the judicial system, after six of their prisoners in Kabul were hanged recently, having been convicted on terrorism charges.
