Twelve Taliban militants and two Afghan National Army soldiers were killed in a battle after two separate groups of Taliban attacked security checkpoints in Ghazi Abad district of eastern Kunar province.

The attack happened early on Wednesday morning at checkpoints in Ghazi Abad district at 04:00 am and lasted for three hours, said Noman Hatefi, a spokesman for the 201st Selab Corps.

He said twelve Taliban fighters and two Afghan National Army soldiers were killed in the battle.

The Taliban has not claimed the responsibility for the attack, but claims they have attacked an Afghan Security Forces convey in Ghazi Abad killing four soldiers and injuring another six members.

Taliban has been targeting vulnerable ANSF checkpoints across the country since launching their summer offensive in April.
