The center of Kohistan district in northern Faryab province fell to the Taliban on Saturday night, local officials confirmed.

The Provincial Police Spokesman, Abdul Karim Youresh confirmed the incident and said that the district collapsed on Saturday at about 10:00 p.m. local time.

Youresh said that the Taliban set the government facilities on fire and the clashes between  the Afghan security forces and the insurgents were ongoing in Khan Abad village of the district.

Unconfirmed reports suggest, the insurgents set the antennas of telecommunication networks on fire in Kohistan district and the contacts of forces involved in the battle with the center were cut off.

The reports also claim that about  200 Afghan soldiers were surrounded by the Taliban in Khan Abad village, however, the Provincial Police Spokesman rejected the reports.
