Taliban Captures Nawa District in Helmand

Taliban fighters overran a district in southern Helmand province of Afghanistan, killing the district police chief and threatening strategically important province in the south, a member of parliament said on Saturday.

Abdul Wadod Popal, a member of parliament from Helmand province said Taliban fighters have taken the control of Nawa district early this morning.

He added, the district was surrounded by Taliban for almost three days and Ahmad Shah Salem his brother who was the district police chief was killed in the fight against Taliban early on Monday.

Security officials have not made a comment yet.

Taliban have launched heavy fighting in the province since a long period aiming to capture the strategically important Helmand province.
