Taliban Kidnaps 16 Passengers, Kills Nine in Afghanistan’s Farah

The Taliban militant group on Tuesday night kidnapped 16 passengers and killed nine of them in western Farah province of Afghanistan, officials said.

The Provincial Council Chief, Jamila Amini said that the Taliban on Tuesday night kidnapped the passengers from Shamal Gah region of the provincial capital, who were traveling en routes to Farah-Kabul and Farah-Herat. 

According to Amini, the Taliban killed nine of the 16-kidnapped passengers and seven of them still in being held by the group. 

The Police Chief of Farah, Gul Bahar Mujahid, however, confirmed the death of six civilians in the incident. 

Mujahid said the dead passengers were the government employees four years ago. 

He added that the routes are open to traffic and the Afghan security forces’ operation continues in the region.

The Taliban has not immediately commented regarding the incident.
