The Taliban militant group has promised to support and protect development projects in Afghanistan, a statement released by the group on Tuesday read.

“The Islamic emirate not only backs all national projects which are in the interest of the people and result in the development and prosperity of the nation, but are also committed to safeguarding them,” the statement said.

According to the statement, this promise extends to all national projects including TAPI (Tajikistan, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Indian) pipeline project, CASA-1000, Mes Aynak copper project, highways, railways, power and agricultural dam projects.

The statement further says the group has directed all its militants to help in the security of all national projects that are in the interest of the country.

This comes as the government of Afghanistan has always accused Taliban for destroying and disrupting vital projects including highways, bridges, schools, public buildings, hospitals and even mosques throughout the country.

Last month the government announced that the group has destroyed Afghanistan’s infrastructure and public buildings that worth about $30 million in only two months.
