At least 10 Afghan soldiers have been killed and nine others injured in Taliban attack on a military base in southern Kandahar province, the Defense Ministry said in a statement Tuesday.

The attack begun on Monday night at 11:50 p.m. when the militants stormed the Achakzai Camp of 205th Atal Corps and Sar-e-Kohi security checkpoint in Shawali Kot district, the Defense Ministry said in the statement.

The statement added that the Afghan forces battled the Taliban militants for several hours, killing at least 12 of them.

Earlier, days ago, the Taliban killed at least 20 Afghan soldiers in a raid in Shah Joy district of southern Zabul province.

The insurgent is currently in fight with the government forces in Qadas district of northwest Badghis province since Monday night.

This comes as the Taliban insurgent group launched their annual “spring offensive” in late April, vowing to target foreign forces as well as Afghan security forces.
