Airstrike Kills Taliban Shadow District Governor for Qala-e-Zal

Taliban shadow district governor for the volatile Kunduz province in the north was killed during an airstrike, officials said on Monday.

Provincial police chief, Gen. Abdul Hamid Hamidi told Ariana News that Mawlavi Doost Mohammad, the Taliban so-called district governor for Qala-e-Zal district was killed along with another 7 militants in an airstrike conducted by foreign forces last night in the province.

He added that at least four Taliban fighters were also wounded in the air raid.

The Taliban group has not made a comment about the report yet.

Qala-e-Zal is among the volatile districts in Kunduz province which was seized by Taliban militants on May 6 as the group launched its “spring offensive” but Afghan forces took its control back after 10 days.

Kunduz province has been one of the Taliban’s main targets. Over the past two years, the group have twice managed to seize the city for a short periods before being driven off by Afghan security forces.
