The armed Taliban have stormed the Ajiristan district of western Ghazni province, deputy of Ghazni governor said.

The security forces that were sent to the area were also surrounded by Taliban.

Deputy of Ghazni governor, Muhammad Ali Ahmadi expressed concern over the shortage of weapons and said that they have repeatedly contacted with the government and asked for more security forces but they have still not received a positive response.

Early reports were that more than 100 people had been killed, including 15 who were beheaded by militants.

In the meantime, the ministry of interior affairs is said to consider Ahmadi’s statements baseless and emphasized that the interior ministry is ready to send more troops if troops are needed.

Ghazni is strategically located southwest of the capital, Kabul and is a key hub for the armed Taliban.
