The armed Taliban group has warned the girls’ schools in Ghazni, saying girls do not have the right to go to school after completing the sixth grade.

Due to the warning, the girls’ schools have been closed for two weeks, but the chairman of Ghazni education department said the problem has been solved and students attend their classes.

A member of Ghazni provincial council, Hamidullah Sarwari said, the problem was solved through the intervention of people councils.

A source on condition of anonymity said a number of headmasters resigned following the warning by Taliban.

Taliban spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid has previously said the closure of schools might be a precautionary measure by the government to prevent civilian casualties during their spring offensive.

Afghan girls were banned from receiving an education and women were not allowed to work or vote under the five-year rule of the Taliban group.
