Trade-Transit Summit to be Held Soon in Ashgabad: Gurbanguly

President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow of Turkmenistan stated that the Trade and Transit Summit will soon be held in Ashgabat, the capital city of Turkmenistan. In a related matter, the President stated that the opening of the Ashgabat International Airport will pave the way for increased business and transit between nations within the region.

PresidentBerdimuhamedow stated that development of the railway connecting the region’s countries will improve their economies, especially Afghanistan’s.

President Berdimuhamedowalso stated thatTurkmenistan has taken necessary measures for launching large-scale development projects within the region. Ashgabat is hosting a series of economic summits and meetings, attended by the representatives of several countries. The Turkmenistan Government has opened an $2,000,000,000 International Airport which will facilitate the transit of approximately 25 million tons of commodities.

President Berdimuhamedow said, “[The establishment] of the International airport in Ashgabat will grow the mutual business between the countries. Our object is to turn Ashgabat into a world trade center. We have not only take a step forward on building the International airport but also has launched necessary measurements on creating railway, connecting to water and even to European countries. Establishing of rail from Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, Iran, Tajikistan and Afghanistan is one of the significant elements of our goals.”

President Berdimuhamedow stated that his government was committed to growing business and trade among nations.

Officials in Turkmenistan have claimed that efforts are underway to hold a Trade and Transit Summit in November with the participation of the NATO Secretary General and representatives of the Alliance.
