Two foreign university professors, one American and one Australian, were kidnapped by armed gunmen from Sanatorium area of Kabul city late on Sunday.

According to eyewitnesses the attackers were wearing Afghan security forces uniforms.

Kabul police have launched its investigations to find the perpetrators of the case.

No group has made contact demanding ransom or claiming responsibility.
The abductions came three days after a group of Western tourists, including three Americans, was attacked by Taliban fighters while driving in a convoy across rural western Herat province of Afghanistan. Five of the visitors were injured but all were safely evacuated to nearby Herat. A Taliban spokesman said they were targeted as “foreign occupiers.”

Earlier an Indian woman who was working for a non-governmental organization in Kabul was abducted and she was released by Afghan forces after nearly two months, but no details revealed either she was recovered in a military operation or by a ransom paid for her release.

Kabul is plagued by organized criminal gangs that stage kidnappings for ransom, both of wealthy Afghans and foreign visitors.
