Two senior Afghan military commanders have been sentenced to Prison on charges of misuse of authority.

Mohammad Moeen Faqir, former 215th Maiwand Corps Commander was sentenced to five years and three months in prison while Fazal Rahman Andarabi, first and second brigade commander of Maiwand Corps was sentenced to three years and two months in prison.

Appointment of 30 personal security guards for his house in Kabul, misuse of five governmental vehicles for personal purposes, embezzlement of 13 million Afghanis from soldiers’ payments, were the court’s charges against Mohammad Moeen Faqir.

Fazal Rahman was charged because of involvement in 13 million Afghanis embezzlement with Moeen Faqir.

The two commanders, however, considered the court’s decision unjustifiable.

“These allegations are illegal, and the reasons which were provided are not acceptable,” Faqir said. He, however, admitted that he did some mistakes but claimed that he was not involved in the embezzlement.

Following the court’s order three other accused personnel of the Maiwand Corps declared innocence. An order has also been made for prosecution of several other personnel of the Corps in the case.
