Afghan President Ashraf Ghani says the U.S. new strategy provides an opportunity for Pakistan to change its policy toward Afghanistan.

Addressing a gathering at the Presidential Palace on Wednesday Ghani said that his country does not want instability in Pakistan.

“Now a consensus was reached that Pakistan should change its behavior,” Ghani said. “It is an opportunity for [Pakistan].”

The President stressed the time is to end the ongoing Afghan war which takes root from regional countries.

“War in Afghanistan is not internal but it has deep roots in the region,” he said.

Kabul has long accused Pakistan of harboring the Taliban and providing sanctuaries for terrorists inside Pakistan, a claim Islamabad denies.

Separately, Ghani reiterated his call on the anti-government elements to join peace talks.  He said the insurgents have limited lifetime before being eliminated.
