Pakistan must address military threats in a comprehensive way because instability in Afghanistan will undermine Pakistan’s security, officials in U.S. Department of State said on Tuesday.

“Pakistan and the broader region’s stability requires that military threats be addressed in a comprehensive way,” Elizabeth Trudeau, Press Director of the U.S. Department of State said in a daily press briefing,” Instability in Afghanistan is not in Pakistan’s interest”.

The U.S. official also said that Washington has clearly asked Islamabad to target all terrorist groups equally without distinguishing between good and bad Taliban.

“In terms of our conversations, we’ve been very clear with the highest level of the Pakistani Government that Pakistan must target all groups,” she said.

These statements comes after U.S. officials asked Pakistan to target Haqqani terrorist network in its soil which is responsible for most deadly attacks against the Afghan security forces and their foreign allies in Afghanistan.

Afghanistan has accused Pakistan of harboring militants seeking to topple the Afghan government, including the notorious Haqqani network, blamed for high-profile attacks in Kabul.
