UN insists NUG to honor Political Agreement on electoral reforms

International Community is expecting the National Unity Government leaders to execute the promised being agreed on the power sharing deal regarding the electoral reforms.

Nicholas Haysom, the UN Secretary-General’s Special Representative & head of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan on Wednesday said,” electoral reform is a part of the promises being made on the NUG power-sharing agreement, reforms is necessary, we expect these promises are being executed so we do not face with the same kind of electoral fraud in the upcoming elections”.

UN representative in Afghanistan also stated,” The United Nation is committed to support the government of Afghanistan and the upcoming Parliamentary Elections, we support election processes in Afghanistan, and we are well prepared to cooperate with the NUG on this decision-making process”.

Although there is no sign on the formation of a special electoral commission for reforms, the CE office says they are ready to announce the members.

The electoral reforms commission will be formed by a Presidential decree which is not formed yet; after the President ordered, we are ready to announce the members,” Mujib Ul Rahman Rahimi spokesperson of the CE of Afghanistan said.

NUG Power-sharing agreement promises for major reforms in the electoral system under the supervision of the Chief Executive Officer which the decree is not honored by President Ghani yet.
