The United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) has said it regrets the execution of six terrorists carried out by Afghan government in Kabul on Sunday 08, May, 2016.

“In line with the continued call of the United Nations for a moratorium on the use of the death penalty, UNAMA regrets the execution of six alleged perpetrators of serious crimes and crimes against civilians,” a statement released by the UN mission in Afghanistan said.

The statement adds that the UN notes that “there is no conclusive evidence of the deterrent value of the death penalty and that the use of capital punishment does not contribute to public safety”.

UNAMA further encourages the Afghan government to “expedite legal reform, which would allow death sentences to be commuted to life imprisonment”.

The government of Afghanistan executed six terrorists belong to the Taliban, Haqqani terrorist network and Al-Qaeda on Sunday in Kabul which was welcomed by most Afghans affected by their terror attacks.

The Taliban has warned of reprisal saying they will target those who have passed sentences for the execution of their militants.
