Unknown Gunmen Shot Dead ‘Popular Poet’ in Nangarhar

Unidentified gunmen shot dead a famous poet and his friend in Afghanistan’s eastern Nangarhar province on Friday, said the provincial government in a statement.

According to the statement, three gunmen armed with silenced pistols shot dead poet Esmatullah Bashari and Qudrat Ullah in a shop and escaped with motorbikes they were riding.

The incident has occurred in Kaga Bazzar, a populated market in Khogyani district where people gathering on Fridays for shopping, at around 11 a.m. local time, the statement said.

Authorities were investigating the motive behind the killing as the assailants fled the scene.
