The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UNOCHA) in Afghanistan says that tens of thousands of people have left their homes due to conflict in the country.

The UNOCHA stated that almost 100,000 people have been displaced this year alone, which shows an increase in internally displaced people (IDPs) compared to the same period in 2020.

The organization stated that 20 percent of IDPs were men, 21 were women, and 59 percent were children.

“Many remain displaced, as conflict and poverty prevent them from returning to their areas of origin,” the UNOCHA stated.

The organization, meanwhile, stated that around 366,000 have returned from neighboring countries to Afghanistan so far this year.

The UNOCHA added that around 361,000 people from Iran and 4,800 from Pakistan had returned “while a small number also returned from Europe.”
