US Deploys 100 Extra Troops to Helmand

U.S. has deployed around 100 American troops to southern Helmand province of Afghanistan as Taliban intensified attacks across the country.

Brigadier General Charles Cleveland, Deputy Chief of Staff for Communication who was speaking with the reporters in Kabul on Monday saidthat recent deployment of U.S. forces in the city is meant to train, advise and assist Afghan partners to enable them to better plan counteroffensives and retake lost areas.

Provincial governor Hayatullah Hayat said that thousands of families have been displaced during the last couple of weeks and hundreds of others sustained to injuries during the fighting in Helmand.

U.S. drone strikes has targeted Taliban militants to support the Afghan security forces and to avoid the advance of Taliban in the province.

Recently the Taliban insurgents have intensified attacks across the country and they could manage to take control of at least two districts in north of Afghanistan for a short time in a week.
