US drone strikes killed 49 IS affiliates in Nengarhar
US drone strikes killed at least 49 militants affiliated with the Islamic State (IS) group in eastern Nengarhar province of Afghanistan.
Provincial governor spokesman Ahmad Zia Abdulzai said the first airstrike killed 12 militants and the second drone strike killed 37 militants in Achin district.
According to the reports the attacks were carried out as the militants had gathered a meeting in the district.
This comes as clashes reported in Achin and Nazian districts between the Taliban & IS, the two rival groups operating in Afghanistan.
Local officials say at least fourteen militants were killed and two others were injured as clashes have emerged between the two groups.
As clashes intensify between the Taliban and IS groups in a number of provinces including eastern Nengarhar, Hezb-e Islami, an Afghan political party led by Gulbuddin Hekmatyar which is considered a terrorist organization by Coalition Forces in Afghanistan, has announced support for IS to combat Taliban.
