Foreign Ministers from 68 countries met in Washington on Wednesday to agree on additional steps to defeat Daesh. The Minister’s meeting marked the first gathering of the US-led military coalition since the election of President Donald Trump in November 2016.

The meeting of Foreign Ministers was hosted by US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson. President Trump has vowed to make the fight against Daesh a priority. In January 2017, President Trump directed the Pentagon and other agencies to submit a plan for defeating the militant group.

“Our coalition is united and stopping an IS resurgent, halting its global ambition and discrediting its ideological narrative,” said US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson.

Secretary Tillerson pointed at Daesh’s attack on Sardar Muhammad Dawood Khan hospital and rembered it as a sign of IS enmity towards Afghanistan.

“Just this month, dozens of people were killed and wounded, when members of ISIS attacked to hospital in Kabul Afghanistan. We know military strength will stop ISIS on a battlefield, but it is [ through the] combined strength of our coalition that there will be the final blow to ISIS,” Rex Tillerson added.

The global coalition to counter Daesh has been fighting the Daesh terror group for two years. Since 2014, members of the 68 countries have done their best to drive the militants out of Syria and Iraq, where the group claims territory.
