Virtue ministry says it will no longer cooperate with UNAMA
The ministry called on international organizations, countries and individuals to respect the religious values of Muslims.
The Ministry for the Propagation of Virtue and the Prevention of Vice (MPVPV) said on Friday that it would no longer cooperate with the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) because of its “constant false propaganda.”
The ministry said in a statement that UNAMA has criticized its newly ratified law, which is based on Sharia rules.
The statement also said that if Muslims criticize the law, they are actually opposing the rule of Allah and criticizing their own religion.
It noted that Afghanistan is an Islamic country and the Islamic Emirate has fought for 20 years to enforce Islamic rules.
The ministry called on international organizations, countries and individuals to respect the religious values of Muslims.
UNAMA has expressed concerned about the new law, saying it is “a distressing vision for Afghanistan’s future, where moral inspectors have discretionary powers to threaten and detain anyone based on broad and sometimes vague lists of infractions.”
