First Vice President Abdul Rashid Dostum left Afghanistan for Turkey on Friday evening for medical treatment, following allegations that he illegally detained and raped a political rival, Ahmad Eshchi.

Sources told Ariana News that General Dostum will receive medical treatment and also visit his family in Turkey; though, it is unclear how long he will stay there.

Unconfirmed reports suggest that the Vice-President exiled to Turkey.

The Presidential Palace confirmed his departure to Turkey for medical treatment purposes, but said that his case is still under investigation.

Dostum was recently seen meeting with the Governor of Balkh, Atta Mohammad Noor, President’s former special envoy, Ahmad Zia Massoud, apparently for the formation of new political coalition.
