West Indies defeated Afghanistan by six wickets in the first T20 International of three match series at Basseterre on Saturday.

Reckless and attacking approach with the bat, that saw no improvisation as the innings worsened, ended Afghanistan’s record 11-match winning streak in the series opener against West Indies at Warner Park.

Choosing to bat first after winning the toss the visitors only managed to post a total of 110 runs. Slipping 58 for 8. Rashid Khan was the top performer with ball and bat, scoring 33 from 27 balls and claiming 1/14 in his four overs.

Off-spinner Sunil Narine claimed three wickets and Kesrick Williams and Carlos Brathwaite two each.

West Indies had 33 runs on the board by the time they lost their first wicket, Chadwick Walton, in the fourth over.

The hosts reached the target with 21 balls to spare, with Marlon Samuels (35) and Evin Lewis (26) flourishing.

The second match of the series to be played at the same venue on Saturday.
