White House on Tuesday rejected claims that the US left a bunch of weapons in Afghanistan, calling it a “farce.”

John Kirby, spokesman of the US National Security Council, said at a press conference that what the US did over the course of 20 years in Afghanistan was helping equip the Afghan National Security Forces.

“Now — and as we have said time and time again, that as the Taliban (IEA) made advances, those Afghan National Security Forces, many of them decided not to fight but yet to lay down their arms and leave,” he said.

Kirby made the remarks in response to a question about reports that the attack that killed 21 Pakistani soldiers last week involved use of US weapons left behind in Afghanistan.

He said he can’t verify the report that weapons left in Afghanistan were used in the attack.

Kirby said that Pakistan remains a key partner in the region. “They continue to face a viable terrorism threat across that border.”

The Islamic of Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA) has previously rejected claims that Afghanistan soil is used in attacks in Pakistan.
