Wolesi Jirga elects Ghafari as 2nd deputy speaker

The Wolesi Jirga — or the lower house of parliament — on Monday elected Nematullah Ghafari as second deputy speaker with the majority of votes.

A number of women representatives in Parliament in an objection demanded the seat of second deputy speaker should be given to the women.

“I would boycott the Parliament as a woman, you misuse the votes of women,” said Fatima Aziz, representative of Kundoz.

However, some of Parliament members considered their objection contrary to the constitutions.

“Tasks should be done in accordance to the regulations, we must take the Demagogic politics aside,” said Shekiba Hashemi, representative of Kandahar.

Nematullah Ghafari in public voting and the last day of election round elected as second deputy speaker with the majority of votes.

Previously, the Wolesi Jirga with holding election for administrative board has elected Zahir Qadir as first deputy speaker and Abdul Rauf Inami as its secretary.
