World road traffic safety day held in Kabul
Officials in Ministry of Transportation and aviation have held the World road traffic safety day in Kabul for the first time, expressing their deep concerns over roads condition in the entire country.
Meanwhile the President special envoy for the good Governance message declared the ground transportation problems, none standard roads condition have overshadowed the economy of the country.
Deputy Minister of Transportation and aviation Sayed Wali Sultan said,” We have gained 94th position in the world on traffic accidents, last year we have lost 1400 of our citizens, 4000 others were injured due to roads condition and Transportation problems across the country.”
The message which has been delivered by the head office of the President special envoy for the good governance Rahimullah Murshidi stating that poor controlling and monitoring of the heavy traffics on the roads have caused the roads situation becomes worst in Afghanistan, this issue has increased the problems within the social life of Afghans.
Officials in Ministry of Public interests have declared the bad conditioning of the roads in Afghanistan, corruption, and none standard working over the roads, the majority of the roads in Afghanistan were asphalted by the private construction companies and they are the main factors for the following issues.
Head of the road safety of Ministry of Public interests Rais Khalil said,” the major destruction of the roads comes from the heavy loaded trucks, corrupted scales.”
“Nothing is standard here in Afghanistan, there is no transparent monitoring management policy to be implemented by the Government to protect the roads condition stable Head of one of the private companies Qurban Ali Nazari said,”
As sustainable solutions for all classes of road have not been identified, particularly low-traffic rural and remote roads, a hierarchy of control should be applied, similar to classifications used to improve occupational safety and health.
At the highest level is sustainable prevention of serious injury and death crashes, with sustainable requiring all key result areas to be considered.
At the second level is real time risk reduction, which involves providing users at severe risk with a specific warning to enable them to take mitigating action.
The third level is about reducing the crash risk which involves applying the road design standards and guidelines (such as from AASHTO), improving driver behavior and enforcement.
Based on the estimation leaked from the Ministry of Public interests 8000 kilo meters of roads were asphalted, and 14000 kilo meters were graveled since 2001.
