Afghan U-19 player and Cricket Board employees seek asylum in UK

The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) has confirmed that a member of the Under-19 team and three board members have applied for asylum in the UK after taking part in the ICC U-19 World Cup tournament in the West Indies last week.

Two Cricket Board sources, speaking on condition of anonymity, confirmed to VOA that the men had been in the UK for 48- hours after taking part in the Under-19 World Cup in the West Indies and had decided not to return home.

The names of the asylum-seekers have not been released and it was not immediately clear why they refused to return to Afghanistan, VOA reported.

Afghanistan secured 4th place in the Under-19 Cricket World Cup last week.
