Iran’s special representative for Afghanistan, Hassan Kazemi Qomi, has said that during his visit to Islamabad an agreement was reached that Afghanistan’s neighbors would present a package of constructive proposals to the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA).

During his visit to Islamabad, Qomi met with Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Jalil Abbas Jilani, and special envoy for Afghanistan, Asif Durrani.

“In these meetings, I emphasized that peace and stability in the region depend on peace and stability in Afghanistan, and what can help to establish peace are regional initiatives centered on Afghanistan’s neighbors,” Qomi said on X.

“In this framework, we agreed with our Pakistani counterparts that Afghanistan’s neighbors form the core of the regional contact group for Afghanistan and present a package of constructive proposals to the caretaker government of Afghanistan,” he added.

Qomi also said that the contact group and its agenda can be expanded and can address the concerns of Afghanistan’s neighbors, regional countries and the international community in the form of a specific agenda with a logical timetable.

Meanwhile, Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry in a statement said that Jilani emphasised the need for coordination among regional countries on Afghanistan for regional stability.

He added that Afghanistan’s neighboring countries have a key role to play in the region’s peace and stability.
