Most of Afghanistan’s waters are still wandering, Afghan Minister of Water and Energy Ali Ahmad Osmani said on Tuesday.

Afghanistan can develop its agricultural sector using these waters; annually we can irrigate thousands hectares of lands with these water and grow with wheat, green trees and give a life to the scorching deserts of Afghanistan.

“Afghanistan’s waters are still wandering, out of five water zones in Afghanistan four of them are open and only Afghanistan has taken one zone under its control,” Osmani said.

Currently, Afghanistan only controls the Hari Road River, but Afghan minister says he plans to build 20 water dams in another one year if they could receive the budget for these projects.

“We have twenty dams to design in the next year, budget is the only problem, if we receive funds for these dams we will design these dams,” Osmani stated.

According to the reports Afghanistan is estimated to reach about 57 billion cubic meters, and annually 70 percent of Afghanistan’s rivers go to the neighboring countries such as Iran, Pakistan, Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan.
