At least 14 people were killed or wounded when a mortar shell hit a wedding ceremony on Saturday night in Tagab district of Kapisa province, police said Sunday.

Kapisa police spokesman Shayeq Shurash said the mortar was fired by the Taliban. They said six civilians including children were killed and more than 10 others were wounded.

“Armed clashes broke out between Taliban insurgents and forces in Tagab district yesterday afternoon and Taliban fired a mortar shell at a residential house,” Shuresh added.

Meanwhile, a security source said that 10 people were killed and eight others were injured when the mortar hit the wedding party.

The Taliban have denied responsibility for the attack, saying it was carried out by security forces.
