Former Health Director of Afghan Army Sentenced to Six Months in Prison

Former Health Director of Afghan Defense Ministry, Zia Yaftali, sentenced to six months in prison by an anti-corruption court on Sunday.

In addition, nine members of the procurement directorate of the Ministry of Defense (MoD) were also sentenced to the same period of imprisonment.

Anisa Rasooly, the head of the court said that the verdict was issued after they were found guilty for embezzlement of 17 million Afghanis in the procurement of swine influenza capsules and other medical equipment.

According to the prosecutor of the case, the convicts have embezzled 17 million Afghanis from the procurement of 140,000 swine influenza capsules and vaccines for the Afghan army.

However, the attorney of the convicts rejected the allegations and said it was not a fair judgment.
