Ghani arrives in Switzerland to attend 46th WEF
President Ashraf Ghani arrived Switzerland to lead the Afghanistan delegation at the 46th annual meeting of the World Economic Forum (WEF).
According to a statement released by President’s office, during the two-day visit, besides delivering a speech at the forum, President will meet NATO’s secretary general, head of several states and economic entities to exchange views on matters of mutual interests.
The World Economic Forum Annual Meeting, will be attended by over 40 heads of state and government, and 2,500 leaders from business and society, from 20 to 23 January in Davos-Klosters, Switzerland.
The theme – Mastering the Fourth Industrial Revolution and critical current challenges, such as security, climate change, “new normal” global growth and commodity prices, are among key issues on the agenda.
It has been said that President Ghani’s main focus will be on fighting terrorism, providing peace and stability in the region and serious combat against (IS) Daesh group in Afghanistan.
Participants include more than 1,500 business leaders from the Forum’s 1,000 Member companies; nearly 300 public figures and Members of the Forum communities, including Social Entrepreneurs, Global Shapers, Young Global Leaders and Technology Pioneers.
Also in attendance will be representatives from international organizations and civil society (NGOs, labour leaders, religious leaders), cultural leaders, academia and the media.
At the sidelines of the meeting, a trilateral meeting between Afghanistan, Pakistan and the United States will be held to exchange views on the situation in Afghanistan, peace and stability in the region and the world.
